Donald Frank Smith was born on March 27, 1932. He was the son of John A. Smith and Berniece A. Smith. He graduated from Pershing High School in 1950 before enlisting in the Army in February 1952. He had been stationed overseas since December. He served in the 8611th Army Administrative Unit as a Private First Class.

PFC Smith died on May 5, 1953, in Baumholder, Germany. He is now buried in the Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley, Oakland County, Michigan, USA.
