Brian Michael Mescall was born on April 18, 1975, in New Jersey. He was the son of John and Peggy Mescall. He was married to Chiun Mescall. He graduated from Exeter High School in New Hampshire in 1993 and later attended The Citadel, where he was a member of F-Troop and earned a bachelor's degree in history in 1997. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, based in Hohenfels, Germany. Before deploying to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, he had completed two tours in Iraq, including service as a tank company commander and as the chief of a military transition team.
Maj Mescall was killed on January 9, 2009, in Jaldak, Zabul Province, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He is now buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA.
