2ndLt Christian Christ took off from A-19 La Vieille at 1900 in his P-38 Lightning s/n 42-67978 "Mim / Betty A III" on a mission over Bourges and Cognac. His left engine caught on fire, forcing him to jump at 2000ft at 1730. The plane exploded on contact, observed by 1stLt Robert W. Spence, but Christ escaped safely.
