William Enoch Martin was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and a waist gunner for the 547th Bomber Squadron, 384th Bomber Group during WWII. On October 14, 1943, he and his crew were shot down during the Second Raid of Schweinfurt. Martin parachuted to safety, however, and escaped into Switzerland, along with 6 of his crew members, on October 21, 1943.
