James Raymond Murray served as a technical sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and was the radio operator for the 547th Bomber Squadron, 384th Bomber Group during WWII.
Murray's B-17 bomber was shot down on October 14, 1943 in Griffeny, France during the Second Raid of Schweinfurt. Murray parachuted to safety and on October 21, 1943, he crossed the border into Switzerland and avoided capture by the Germans.
