Born on October 22, 1916, Louis Lawrence Ratkiewicz was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He served as a tail gunner for the 547th Bomber Squadron, 384th Bomber Group during WWII.
On October 14, 1943, Ratkiewicz and his crew were shot down in Griffeny, France during the Second Raid of Schweinfurt. Ratkiewicz parachuted to safety and escaped to Switzerland one week after the crash.
Ratkiewicz died on May 25, 1968. He is buried in Mount Evergreen Cemetery, in Jackson, Michigan.
