William Clinton Story was born in 1892, studied at Princeton University, Class of 1913. He was a student aviator, member of the second solo or advanced flying classes. William and Cadet William J. Weissinger were flying out of the same field and going in the same direction when the collision occured. Story turned his machine to make a glide to landing, according to newspaper reports from Memphis, and the airplanes came together. Story fell from his machine when it was descending and landed beneath its wreckage. Weissinger also landed under his machine. The airplanes fell about 1,000 feet. William was fatally injured and he died later in the field hospital where he was taken after the accident. He is now buried in the Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, Nassau County, New York, USA.
