Allen Williamson Talley was born in 1895, a graduate from Princeton University, Class of 1916. He attended the first Plattsburg camp; was commissioned and assigned to Syracuse for a time, and later was assigned to Company A, 5th Machine Gun Battalion. He went to France in September 1917, with his unit, and after a year's service he was killed while advancing in action, by a high explosive shell. He remained conscious for about 15 minutes after being wounded and gave directions for the continued advance of his platoon. 1LT talley is now buried in the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. He also has a cenotaph located in Ware Episcopal Church Cemetery, Gloucester, Gloucester County, Virginia.
