James Douglas Rivet served as a Major in the U.S. Army in World War I and was the Battalion Commander of the 3rd Battalion in the 61st Infantry Regiment, 5th Division. During the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, the final offensive made by the Allied forces in WWI, MAJ Rivet and his battalion joined the 11th Infantry Regiment and attempted to capture Bois des Rappes, just outside of Bantheville. MAJ Rivet was killed in action on October 15, 1918. Bois des Rappes was captured by the 5th Division 6 days later.
