Cpt Joseph P. Marr took off from station 416, Christchurch, UK in his P-47 Thunderbolt 42-76479 "Ginny" on an armed reconnaissance mission. However, while strafing a flak position at 150 feet, one of his bombs exploded, disintegrating the aircraft and killing him.
