B-24 (42-40997) 'The Worry Bird' Memorial- Operation Carpetbagger
2nd Lt Arthur Bozeman Pope, navigator of the B-24 Liberator 42-40997 “The Worry Bird” took off from Harrington, UK at 2229 on a resupply mission to the resistance as part of Operation Lackey over the Timbale drop zone. Flying nap-of-the-earth, the plane hit a mountain at 0200 and separated into four parts, killing five of the eight crew members.
