2nd Lt John B. Elliot, co-pilot of the B-17 41-24501, took off from Station 111 in Thurleigh, Bedfordshire, UK on a bombing mission over St Nazaire’s submarine pens. They were targeted by flak and fighters until the crew bailed out over the Atlantic. Elliot was captured and sent to Stalag 7A in Moosburg.
