2nd Lt John B. Elliot, co-pilot of the B-17 41-24501, took off from Station 111 in Thurleigh, Bedfordshire, UK on a bombing mission over St Nazaire�s submarine pens. They were targeted by flak and fighters until the crew bailed out over the Atlantic. Elliot was captured and sent to Stalag 7A in Moosburg.
