Killed in Action during the Battle of the Bulge when his tank crashed over an ice-covered cliff. During the Battle of the Bulge, Tech 4 Wardle learned that the commander of supporting troops was wounded and the medics were unable to reach him due to heavy enemy fire. Wardle ignored the enemy mortars and drove the tank up to the wounded commander and placed him inside. Wardle returned without hesitation to rescue another wounded soldier from enemy fire.
