1st Lt John G. Agar Jr., pilot in the AEF during WWI, died of wounds he sustained after crash-landing at Belrain. The airfield was the 22nd’s deadliest base, with nine dead in the first 42 days of their stay there. The average front-line time for a pilot during that period was 53 days before death, capture, injuries, or psychosis prevented further sorties.
