2nd Lt Norman Wolff, bombardier of the B-17 42-30711 "Fertile Turtle Myrtle", took off from station 109 Podington, Bedfordshire, UK on a bombing mission over Frankfurt. The plane was hit by flak, causing the crew to bail out, but Lt Friedrich Lange of 6./JG26 finished them off at 1241, killing 8 crewmen, including Wolff.
