2nd Lt James Milton Thorson, co-pilot of the B-17 42-37984, took off from station 109 in Podington, Bedfordshire, UK at 0820 on a bombing mission over Frankfurt. The plane was shot down by Fw-190s and evacuated at 10000 feet around 1040 with engine 2 on fire. Thorson survived the jump and later escaped by boat back to the UK on MGB 503.
