2nd Lt James E. Williams, navigator of the B-17 42-37984, took off from station 109 in Podington, Bedfordshire, UK at 0820 on a bombing mission over Frankfurt. The plane was shot down by Fw-190s and evacuated at 10000 feet around 1040 with engine 2 on fire. Williams survived the jump and landed near Amiens. He escaped back to the UK on May 25th 1944 with the help of the Bourgogne Pyrenees/Spain/Gibraltar network. His full E&E report is #668.
