SSgt Frank J. Wingerter, right waist gunner of the B-17 42-29960 "Nymokymi", took off from station 106 in Grafton Underwood, Northamptonshire, UK on a bombing mission over Gnome and Rhone-Le Mans factory complexes at 1100. The plane was hit by flak and fighter fire, losing its no.4 engine. The crew bailed out of the burning plane. Wingerter escaped back to the UK by the Pyrenees/Spain/Gibraltar route and returned on August 16th 1943. His full E&E report is #68.
SSgt Wingerter died in 1992 and is now buried in the Calvary Cemetery, Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania.
