2nd Lt Clifford C. Dartt, co-pilot of the B-17 42-29960 "Nymokymi", took off from station 106 in Grafton Underwood, Northamptonshire, UK on a bombing mission over Gnome and Rhone-Le Mans factory complexes at 1100. The plane was hit by flak and fighter fire, losing its no.4 engine. The crew bailed out of the burning plane. Dartt was taken prisoner and sent to Stalag Luft 3 in Sagan-Silesia until April 1945.
After the war he married and raised a family of three children. He worked for Bell Telephone and Western Electric Company and also continued his military aviation activities by flying helicopters in the NY National Guard.
Clifford died on December 3, 2015 at the age of 95 in Fall River, Massachusetts.
