2nd Lt James L. Dyar, pilot of the P-47 Thunderbolt 42-26124, took off from A-7 Azeville on an armed reconnaissance over the Vire sector. He was shot down in aerial combat. His plane crashed and exploded at 0900, no doubt killing him instantly.
