2nd Lt Santo A. Giamalva, pilot of the P-47 42-28361, took off from A-14 Cretteville on an armed reconnaissance over Rânes to assist the 3rd AD’s push into Northern France. His last radio transmission indicated his engine had been hit. He continued losing altitude. His aircraft and body were later found disintegrated in a field.
