2nd Lt Santo A. Giamalva, pilot of the P-47 42-28361, took off from A-14 Cretteville on an armed reconnaissance over R�nes to assist the 3rd AD�s push into Northern France. His last radio transmission indicated his engine had been hit. He continued losing altitude. His aircraft and body were later found disintegrated in a field.
