Sgt Clyde D. Tinker, left waist gunner of the B-17 42-31325, took off from station 142 in Deopham Green, Norfolk, UK on a bombing mission over Frankfurt. Shortly after bombs away, the plane was hit by flak and came under attack from German Fw-190 fighters. He bailed out successfully but was later captured and sent to Stalag Luft 4 in Gross-Tychow. Clyde died on January 5, 1966 at the age of 55 and is now buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, Erwin, Unicoi County, Tennessee, USA.
