Oscar Edger Cleaveland was born on May 27, 1917 in Center, Saguache County, Colorado. He was the son of Joseph Grover Cleaveland and Mattie Relo Sloniker Cleaveland. He came to Grand county with his parent while a young boy, and attended the Moab schools, and was inducted into the armed forces on November 4, 1942, and was assigned to a combat batallion of the engineers corps. He had been in England about three months prior to the invasion. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 in France at the age of 27 and is now buried in Grand Valley Cemetery, Moab, Grand County, Utah, USA.
