Almond L. "Jack" Hagerty gave his life for his country while serving as a beachmaster with the 6th Naval Beach Battalion, 5th Engineer Special Brigade. He was killed when an artillery shell hit his landing craft just off Omaha Beach. He was remembered by his comrades as having a genuine concern for his fellow sailors and being the type of person everyone loved being around.
