John Norbert “Jack” Murphy was born on October 27, 1921 in Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas. He was the only son of Michael Thomas Murphy and Irene Angeline Deveney Murphy. He served in the 6th Naval Beach Battalion as a Radioman Petty Officer 2nd Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 at the age of 22 at Omaha beach on D-day and is now buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas, USA. His death date is June 8 in his headstone.
