From the front page of the Beatrice Daily Sun, Nebraska, 9 May 45: Edwin F. Lipps, 29, former employee at the Demptster shell factory, was
killed in action in Germany on April 23rd, according to a war department message
received by his wife, the former Virginia Veon, at Oakland, Calif. The message
said a letter would follow.
Mrs. Lipps wroter her father, Henry Veon of Beatrice, that she had received
letters up to April 13th from her husband and he stated that he was in the
fighting. He had also received word on April 6th of having a son born the 23rd
of March. Mrs. Lipps, formerly of Beatrice, lives with her two children in
California.
In his honor the Demptster whistle blew for one minute at 2:30 p.m. this
afternoon and all employees stood at attention.
