Floyd Leon Hawkins was born on 1924, son of Dewey and Marie Hawkins. He attended the Anthony School in Halbert township and graduated from Shoals High School in 1942. He was inducted into the service in December 1943 and received his training in Mississippi. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 81st Engineer Combat Battalion.He died on September 10, 1944 of injuries received in a train accident in Orleans, France and is now buried at Spring Hill Cemetery, Shoals, Martin County, Indiana, USA.
