Warren H. Loyd
Aviation Radioman 1st Class - ARM 1/c
Warren H. Loyd was born in Clifton, Kansas, July 1921. He graduated from Ottawa High School, Ottawa, Kansas 1940, following graduation he enlisted in U.S. Navy. Warren was highly skilled in aviation communications and radar. He served as radioman on Mr. James V. Forrestal's plane. Mr. Forrestal was the Undersecretary of the Navy 1940-1944.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 18, 1940 and served aboard the USS Makassar Strait (CVE-91) in the attached Squadron VC-97. He was the radioman on a Grumman TBM Avenger and killed in action while flying a bombing mission over Ishigaki.

The Bilingual Memorial Monument on Ishigaki Island is dedicated to Warren Loyd ARM 1/c, Robert Tuggle Jr., AOM 1/c, and LT.Vernon Tebo. These three airmen of Squadron VC-97 were shot down over Ishigaki.
