Jack C. Fortune was born on September 22, 1918. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II as a Captain in the 86th Fighter Squadron, 79th Fighter Group. He entered service in Georgia. Pilot of the P-47 Thunderbolt which took off from Chabeuil on September 11, 1944, on an armed reconnaissance of the Rhone Valley. The plane collided in the dark with Lt. Winschell's P-47. He is now buried at Graniteville Cemetery, Graniteville, Aiken County, South Carolina, USA.
