Comments:

Victor E. Denti served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II as a Second Lieutenant in the 354th Fighter Squadron, 355th Fighter Group. He entered the service in California. He was flying a P-51B named "Bud" which took off from Steeple Morden on an escort mission to Beziers, France. The flight had broken escort with the bombers and dropped down to 10,000 ft looking for strafing opportunities and enemy aircraft. Spotting two airfields near Chateauroux, Colonel Kinnard saw a JU88 and went down to strafe it. Lt Richard Cross Jr's flight acted as top cover and when he saw a JU88 trying to land he went down to strafe it. Kimmel later he saw a long streak of flames across the airfield which he believed was Lt Denti. Denti died on July 5, 1944 and is now buried in Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial, Epinal, Departement des Vosges, Lorraine, France.
