When Louis Tate “Rip” Collins was born in 1924 in Virginia, his father, William, was 28 and his mother, Edith, was 23. He had five brothers and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during the Normandy Invasion of World War II as a Private in C Company, 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He entered the service in Virginia. He died on June 1, 2010 and was cremated. Location of his ashes in unknown.
