Woodson Hart was born on September 25th, 1914 in Clay County, Kentucky, the son of Jesse Hart and Alice Maggard Hart. He was a self-employed mechanic and fishing guide, and a highly decorated United States Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the West Somerset Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Normandy Invasion of World War II as a Staff Sergeant in D Company, 377th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He entered the service in Kentucky. He died on April 22, 2010 and is now buried in West Somerset Baptist Church Cemetery, Somerset, Pulaski County, Kentucky, USA.
