When Joe O. Johnson was born on September 21, 1921, in Tennessee, his father, R, was 38 and his mother, Hattie, was 33. He had two brothers and four sisters. He enlisted in the Army on February 17, 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 378th Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on November 18, 1944 and is now buried in Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, DeKalb County, Tennessee, USA.
