When Edward E. Blythin was born on February 11, 1883, in Keota, Iowa, his father, Joseph, was 31 and his mother, Virginia, was 22. He had four brothers and three sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant First Class in Company E, 2nd Field Signal Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He died on November 25, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France.
