When Edgar Roy Chandler was born on September 15, 1894, in Bell, North Dakota, his father, Arthur, was 38 and his mother, Matilda, was 22. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company D, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on May 9, 1918 and is now buried in Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France. His name is inscribed on the Cantigny monument as PVT E R CHADLER.
