When Elmer A. Chatham was born on June 22, 1894, in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania, his father, Harry, was 25 and his mother, Halda, was 21. He married Marie McCrossin in 1919 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He entered the military service in Montana. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company A, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on June 16, 1918 and is now buried in Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France.
