Frank M. Colon was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Colon of Aberdeen, S. D. Private Colon was born in Odessa, Russia on December 4, 1899. He enlisted in Co. L, 4th South Dakota Infantry on April 21, 1917, and in training camp he was transferred to Co. C, 148th Machine Gun Battalion, sailing early in 1918 for France with that organization. He was later transferred to Co. M, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, with which he went into action in May, 1918. He fought from early in May until May 24, when he was killed in action. He is now buried in Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France.
