When Jay E. Cross was born on February 28, 1898, his father, Newman, was 42 and his mother, Martha, was 22. He had one brother. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Wagoneer in Supply Company, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on May 10, 1918 in Morey, France and is now buried in Manlius Village Cemetery, Manlius, Onondaga County, New York, USA.
