When Rolly Winchester Darling was born on September 14, 1890, in Radcliffe, Iowa, his father, Montroville, was 35 and his mother, Mary, was 19. He had four brothers and three sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company B, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on May 6, 1918 and is now buried in Wild Rose Cemetery, Berthold, Ward County, North Dakota, USA.
