When Francis Edward Dyer was born on December 22, 1899, their father, Francis, was 51 and their mother, Ida, was 40. He had two siblings. He entered the military service in Louisiana. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company L, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on May 23, 1918 and is now buried in Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France. He also has a memorial stone in Lakeview Cemetery, Lake Arthur, Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana, USA.
