When Paul K. Eskew was born in 1899 in Simpson, Kentucky, his father, James, was 44 and his mother, Belle, was 16. He married Zida Nebraska Cantrell on October 3, 1916, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. They had one child during their marriage. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company B, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on May 28, 1918 and is now buried in Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France.
