When Michael A. Fishback was born on December 6, 1896, in Perry, Indiana, his father, William, was 31 and his mother, Millie, was 23. He had two brothers. He enlisted in U.S. Regular Army July 26, 1917, Murphysboro, 111. he was sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo. and later transferred to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind. He was assigned to Company H, 28th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division. He was embarked for overseas on October 31, 1917. Corporal Fishback was Killed in Action on May 27, 1918 in Battle of Cantigny. He is now buried in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Cannelton, Perry County, Indiana, USA.
