When Willford Funderburk was born on June 29, 1896, in Georgia, his father, James, was 25 and his mother, Alice, was 28. He had four brothers and three sisters. After receiving military training in local camps, Private Funderburk was attached to Company E, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, with which he embarked for oversea service. He was Killed in Action on May 26, 1918 and is now buried in Mount Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Meriwether County, Georgia, USA.
