When Walter Aloysious Dawe was born in March 1890, his father, John, was 39 and his mother, Martha, was 34. He had three brothers and four sisters. He entered the military service in Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company D, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was declared "Missing in Action" on May 28, 1918 and is commemorated on Tablets of the Missing, Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France.
