When William Casper "Bill" Greifzu was born on June 21, 1897, in Lumberton, New Jersey, his father, Johann, was 40 and his mother, Anna, was 34. He lost his mother when he was only an infant, and his father when he was only 12 years old. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Company A, 1st Engineer Combat Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on May 16, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. He also has a marker in Saint Pauls Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hainesport, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA.
