When Herman W. Hansen was born in September 1896 in Montcalm, Michigan, his father, Peder, was 42 and his mother, Martha, was 41. He had three brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Mechanic in 1st Trench Mortar Battery, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 7, 1918 and is now buried in Hillside Entrican Cemetery, Entrican, Montcalm County, Michigan, USA.
