Joseph Kaczor was 36 years of age, a native of Austria and of Polish descent. He was living in his country for 20 years and was serving his second enlistment in the regular army when killed. He was with Gen. Pershing in the Mexican campaign and was one of the first members of the American Expeditionary Forces to be sent to France. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in Company A, 2nd Machine Gun Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He died of his wounds on May 14, 1918 and is now buried in Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France.
