When Justin Oxford Lyell was born on March 15, 1895, in Dickson, Tennessee, his father, John, was 27 and his mother, Mary, was 24. He had four brothers and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company H, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds on May 6, 1918 and is now buried in Cumberland Furnace Cemetery, Cumberland Furnace, Dickson County, Tennessee, USA.
