When Clyde Millard was born on May 3, 1900, in Goodson, Virginia, his father, David, was 54 and his mother, Gracie, was 31. He had four brothers and three sisters. He enlisted in the Army on January 15, 1917 and was sent overseas in June 1917. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company M, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division and took part in several major offenses. He died from his wounds received in battle on April 27, 1918 in Cantigny, France and is now buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Montpelier, Blackford County, Indiana, USA. The AmericanLegion Post in Montpelier, Ind. is named in his honor.
