Private James E Reilly, born in March of 1898, was the son of James and Elizabeth Reilly of 520 9th Ave., New York. In the 1910 census, 12 year-old James is living with his parents and 4 siblings on East Thirty Ninth Street in New York. His father is an engineer at a hotel. James enlisted on June 25, 1916 at New York. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company E, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on April 30, 1918 in France and is now buried in Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France. His name is inscribed on the Cantigny monument under Company D of his unit.
